Loftier pursuits

I am finding that as I pursue goals other than what I am 'supposed to' I find that my life comes more into focus, and there are fewer things to stress over. Just focusing on work creates more stress in my life, whereas if I have more and varied outside interests- Church, my writing, choir, childrens educational goals, physical exercise, health; I am more focused on things that usually create stress. I have more balance in my life than if I just focus on things that I am supposed to. I like branching out, and I will continue to... to search for even further balance in a life that I have been given by God. My gifts need to be shared.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I am helping my son (4th grader) finish his report on Martin Luther King Jr. for Black History Month. I knew that Dr. King was a great man, but after going through his life with my son, I myself have learned a lot more about the man from our research.

You can view the timeline from his life by clicking here: Martin Luther King, Jr. TIMELINE. He was arrested several times as he fought for civil rights; Lunch counter sit-ins began in Greensboro, North Carolina. In Atlanta, King is arrested during a sit-in waiting to be served at a restaurant. In 1960 he was sentenced to four months in jail, but after intervention by John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, he was released. It is easy to take for granted what Dr. King did for civil rights, from joing the bus boycott in Montgomery, AL to lunch counter sit-ins in Greensboro, NC to his many speeches he gave during his life. Dr. King once said-
Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.
Dr. King was a man of great faith, he lived what he spoke and preached. No, he didn't see the whole staircase, he didn't need to, he just knew it was there; a staircase that he would have used in his "I've been to the Mountaintop speech"
To this day we are taking up his battle, still step by step, it has been a long, slow battle and the top of the staircase is getting closer and closer.

I am glad my son picked Dr. King as his topic for his report, I learned a lot and my son did also. I will try never to take for granted what any man has done in his lifetime, especially when that lifetime is cut tragically short because of his strong convictions to make right what is obviously wrong.

Sunday School

Mom's not been feeling well, so I have been working the class myself, with the help of some great parents. I think it may be time for a week off. Kids are great, but I want to remain fresh. This will also mean bailing on Church. We'll see what happens as next Sunday draws closer. I will pray about it this week. But right now, I know how I feel.

Writing, writing, writing...

Forgot how much fun it is to post to my Blog (imagine that) I actually had something in mind to write about, but as soon as I sat down... you get the picture. And now, it's almost time to get ready for Church, and then Sunday School. I am very excited about Script Frenzy I have never written a script before, but I do have a lot of ideas running around in my head, maybe I wll empty out something good. Basically I have a month to reasearch script writing!! Still have no idea what to write about? Maybe something I imagine? Something I know a lot about? I have a month...

From was to is...

They say that everyone you meet, know, are cared for by makes you who you are. You are a conglomeration of all of your associations in your life

Oh, God!

Just watched Oh, God! Bk II. Forgot what a great movie, and moives these are! Think God, I wonder if a mainstream movie like this could be made in 2011? The message this movie sends is wonderful, God speaks to, and converses with a child who sees nothing wrong with seeing God, the adults in the movie of course, are perplexed by the childs admission that she actually sees God and becomes one (of MANY) of his disciples. I am biased, as I too talk to God with words and actions. I don't know how I would react if I ever saw God himself, and spoke with him. What would I say? What would he say? But, I know that as long as Jesus stays in my heart, I will see God one day, at the time and place of his choosing. As the Easter season quickly approaches, I know I have God's love covering me, protecting me like a blanket. I know this because he gave his only son... for ME. If God can see something in me that makes me worthy of sacrificing his only son, well than i can see that something in me also.
