Better Life

As I said before, my wife, kids and in-laws are staying in a very nice upscale house in Ocean City, MD; it is a veeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrry nice house, a house anyone would be proud to live in. It has also made me think think about my life, and exactly where I went wrong, and how I can correct it. Where is it written that only certain people deserve a view of the bay, and a beautiful sunrise every single morning? Do not get me wrong, I love our house- it is the house we were meant to live in. But I would love to have a spectacular view from our rear or front balcony, but by virtue of living in America I feel that we deserve, as does all Americans, to live in the lap of luxury and live the American dream.

The "O.C."

Hi, I am vacationing with the family in a beautiful home in Berlin, MD; not too far from Ocean City, MD. The house is worth about 4 times what our current house is worth, it has everything a house should have. The view from the back deck is breathtaking, I often find myself leaning over the railing gazing into space wondering what I have to do to have this view permanantly; the view is not only beautiful, it does provide tangible proof that there is a God, for without his grand plan the view would not be possible, I am sure of it. Virginia Tech Tragedy

I have been reserving comment on the terrible events of April 16th, watching with the rest of the country as the most recent and disturbing of details were splashed on the television screen. After seeing the contents of the mysterious package (that had been sent to NBC between the two killing sprees) on television like so many other American, I had had enough. Knowing what this deranged person had done, I did not need any convincing that this person had mental problems, nor did I need to know, nor care to know why he did what he did. The only thing I know is that there are 33 families whose children will not be coming home for break, there are 33 families who will not be attending graduation of their children. (Special Note: All students will be receiving degrees from the university. That is a very decent move from Virginia Tech). What happened was indeed a tragedy of the worst kind, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims of this senseless tragedy. Go Hokies!

Imus Firing

First things first, in this day and age people who have a mainstrem media position where their words go out to the entire country have to be more diligent than ever when either speaking or writing something. They should also be aware (and I hope they are) that they are living in a society where derogatory words, descriptions, or other means to label a person, or persons is unconscionable and it cannot be tolerated, if we let one comment slip by, you can be sure there will be other comments, even more severe than the preceding comments to follow. Where do we draw the line? There have been people in the media who have used derogatory statements in the past, and most of them have been dealt with in a fair manner. When Rush Limbaugh was let go from ESPN for saying that Donovan McNabb was not as good a quarterback as everybody thought, but because he is black, people put him up on a pedestal because football needs a great black quarterback, that was a dumb statement. In my opinion El Rusho was stating what he thought to be true, true or not, he had a right to say it, his firing was unjustified. Back to Mr. Imus, when I first heard what he had said, I can't say exactly what I thought about it besides the disgust I felt for such hateful words. Living in the Philly-metro area I was following the Rutgers womens' basketball team with more interest than I usually give to Womens' basketball, because it was the first time in school history that a womens basketball team from Rutgers had reached the championship game, and that is a noteworthy feat. I don't really know what to say about this now, I am having a mini writers block; yes the team is comprised of mainly African American members; should that be a reason to either like or dislike them? No. Because we all live in America it is common to stand in line at a store with a Chinese- American, Indian-American, Irish-American, German-American, etc. That might be an eyebrow raising sight in any other country to see so many different ethnic backgrounds, but in America it is a common sight. I guess it is easy to be stand-offish if the person who is different than you is from another country, there is the comfort of a boundary (an invisible barrier, if you will). That, by the way, is still no excuse to treat them any differently. My point here is this, the type of remarks that were made by Don Imus, however they were intended, can only be construed as hateful, destructive; not to any one particular ethnic group, but to us as a society. I also hope that a double-standard does not apply here; those remarks, or similar remarks should not be tolerated by anybody, no matter who speaks them.

New Me

Hi, I recently purchased the book called "The Secret", it is a very good book that I have already read several times, I also have the DVD. It teaches you that despite the enormous size of the universe, it is a microcosm of a human body, with people as the cells. It tells you how powerfull the human mind really is, as it works hand in hand with the energy force of the universe. I have tried this once before in a different form, and the basic premise is to use the law of attraction to get what you want out of life, "If you hold it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand." It is, admittedly, a tough concept to get your hands around, but I know it can work, if I just get rid of all of my begative thoughts, becuase negative thoughts only produce negative results. So with that in mind positive thoughts can only yield positive results. I am also using this book in cinjunction with a book called "The Self-Talk Solution". I am confident that using these two books together, I can break out of this cycle, and better my life in ways that I can only imagine.
